Telemundo is officially going vertical.

The hit series Armas de Mujer, released in English as Till Jail Do Us Part, is getting a full mobile-first microdrama adaptation on ReelShort: 123 episodes of high-stakes drama cut and optimized for vertical viewing. The adaptation draws on the original, which starred Kate del Castillo with an ensemble cast.

Why it matters

This is a major move by traditional Spanish-language television into the microdrama space, and it comes from the network with the most experience in the format’s closest ancestor. Telenovelas invented daily serialized drama at volume. Vertical is telenovela pacing compressed for a phone.

It is also a signal about audience. The U.S. Spanish-language audience is large, loyal and mobile-first, and it has been underserved by vertical platforms that launched with English-language libraries. Telemundo on ReelShort is the first serious attempt to change that.

The association’s note

As with every adaptation of existing television, the association’s interest is in the original cast. When a performance shot for broadcast is reformatted into a new product, the people on screen should be credited in the new product and should have a say in its use. The association’s standards treat archival adaptation as a consent question, and the Telemundo deal is a good place to show how that works at scale.
